Kabrew XIV was the wettest on record with storms rolling through Friday night and off and on Saturday. Some don't like to get wet when they're on the river (yeah, it's odd right), so it made for a less crowded Saturday. Despite the rain, their were still a surprising number of Die-Hards on the water Saturday so the trip still gets scored as a success, and will certainly be one of the more memorable ones. Adding heavy rains and a cover of haze to an already scenic river, may not sound that cool, but it certainly looked it.
Notables for Kabrew XIV
- Beersbee takes over as the most played tail-gate game on the trip (given it's the first year we had it). Another new addition, Light Up Bocce Ball, along with old standards, Hillbilly Golf (ladder ball), Football (dice game), and big nail - little hammer also were enjoyed by the crew. Along with the more drinking focused Beer Pong, and Flippy Cup. Technically all the games are involve drinking... that would be the Brew part of Kabrew.
- The KaLauncher was back again, proving there is still room for minor improvements. Functioned like a champ, but at some point while nobody was using it and it was leaning on a picnic table some unknown force did some unknown thing snapping the PVC below the threads where the barrel meets the combustion chamber. Technically no real improvement will be made, just being sure to either store it flat, or remove the barrel. Maybe an opportunity to consider a breach loader.
- Saturday after rains off and on, the camp was a swamp. Nothing we couldn't handle.
- Occupy Kabrew was in force protesting something, what I'm not sure, but they were there. [ Given the weather forecast a couple of Kabrewer's had fashioned a shelter with multiple tarps ... this was over the top of a tent and a hammock ... So either Occupy Kabrew or some kind of homeless reference seemed appropriate, and were good guys so we stayed away from the homeless reference ]
- More goosebumps than we've ever seen on Kabrew. Spring fed river + rain + drops in temps. We've been at this for 14 years now so the Kabrew team was more prepared for this than most.
- We saw another Unicorn, that's 2 unicorns in 14 years. Majestic creatures those Unicorns.
