After Kabrew 1s failure we still borrowed 100% of the boats we used but moved the trip to the Pine River where it is currently held. The trip at this point was a mix of Kayaks and Canoes. We started way upstream at Edgetts and paddled to Silver Creek state campground. The most infamous evening in Kabrew history. We put in way too late. We were in the water as the sun set. The gnats native to the pine river came out as the sun went down. Eventually visibility on the river was down to next to nothing, and you had to squint just to minimize the number of gnats you would get in your eyes. After hours of paddling after dark the lead pack of kayaks (myself included) found the take-out. The best thing I could have possibly seen was before me and that was my friends from the group that lagged behind a ways (canoes and some other yaks) they had been rescued by an Indian Santa Claus (a.k.a a Native American from the Indian reservation we were paddling through who had a stellar white beard). One of the guys cried like a schoolgirl because he was so scared but we'll protect the innocent here. After that hellish night day 2 from Silver Creek all the way to Peterson bridge was no problem. Day 3 we had planned to paddle down to low bridge but the crew decided against it and just wanted to get the travel home out of the way. We would find out later what we had missed. Kabrew 2 is also significant, as it is the only year a female has graced our presence (This is by design). 11 Brave souls survived Kabrew 2, 10 of us with our dignity.
